What is Theatre Vault?
Something's rotten in the state of theatre.
America boasts a vital, exciting theatre community. Audiences can, within the next month alone, go enjoy Naked Shakespeare in Portland, Maine; see the world premire of The Center of the Universe at Open Circle Theatre in Seattle, Washington; witness Oliver! at the Black Rose Theatre in Brandon, Mississippi; laugh out loud at Catgut Strung Violin at Tricklock Company in Albuquerque, New Mexico; see My Fair Lady (again) at Madison, Wisconsin's Madison Repertory Theatre; and sample Shadowbox's sketch comedy and live rock and roll music offerings in Columbus, Ohio or Newport, Kentucky; among literally thousands of other options.
So, what's the problem?
America, even with its immense and thriving performing arts scenes, lacks an up-to-date one-stop-shopping place to find theatre information.
Until now.
We proudly introduce Theatre Vault! On this site, you can not only access performance information, crew calls, and audition listings, but you will also be able to enjoy theatre reviews... sometimes more than one review for a single show, allowing you to compare several different opinions about select productions. We also will offer information about area classes and workshops, and Theatre Vault will publish informational articles on subjects you care about: how to prepare for an audition, how to format your resume, featured companies, national SAG/AFTRA updates, and more.
Sound a bit ambitious?
Well, hold on to your cod pieces.
Theatre Vault will begin in Central Ohio, but we plan to expand, creating a network of regional Theatre Vaults nationally.
In addition to finding information about where to go see some fantastic theatre, Theatre Vault also host's the world's largest database of scripts - ranging from new works to published works to royalty-free works residing in the public domain.
Playwrights can upload their new, never-before-seen scripts and get them in front of hundreds - thousands - of theatre companies.
Theatre companies (community, non-profit, professional, etc.) will find new, world-premiere scripts to produce, and can pay playwrights their royalties right here, through the site.
Theatre Vault is truly a one-stop-shop for theatre information and necessities no matter where you are in the country - and, to get even more ambitious, our plan is to expand the script selection and theatre company availability all over the world! Come with us - it's gonna be a great ride!
Now we'd like to hear from you. What do you want on this site? Tax advice for artists? Information about rehearsal spaces? How to make giant bunraku puppets using newspaper, glue, and chicken wire? Let us know!
